Moody Welcomes New MBI and MTS Faculty

With the anticipation of students’ return to campus after summer break, Moody is excited to announce the arrival of many new professors joining the faculty of Moody Bible Institute and Moody Theological Seminary to kick off its fall 2022 semester.

“We are pleased to welcome our new graduate and seminary faculty members,” said Dr. Winfred Neely, vice president and dean of Moody Theological Seminary. “Their high caliber of theological training and rich ministry experience is what we were looking for to equip our students inside and outside of the classroom.”

MTS New Faculty

Dr. David Sutton is joining the MTS Applied Theology department as associate professor of Applied Theology and Global Church Ministries. A native Chicagoan who specializes in biblical preaching, Dr. Sutton has been serving as pastor at Bread of Life Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood since 2009. He received his Bachelors of Science in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute, and both his Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Divinity degrees from North Park Theological Seminary. Dr. Sutton will be program head of the new MTS Masters in Divinity Biblical Preaching emphasis.

Dr. Elizabeth Skjoldal brings her qualifications and skills as a licensed psychologist to teach as professor in our Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. Born in Cuba and a Miami, Florida native, Dr. Skjoldal's research interests include: multi-cultural counseling, cultural humility, and the provision of counseling to underserved populations. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education Information from Florida Southern College, her MScEd in Community Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami, and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami. She also served for 28 years as associate professor at Trinity International University’s Graduate School in Florida.

Dr. Jim Wood is a licensed psychologist who will join MTS as associate professor of Counseling Psychology at the Plymouth, Michigan campus. He began teaching courses in counseling psychology at MTS-Michigan in fall of 2020. He’s also previously served as clinic manager for InterSessions, MTS-Michigan’s counseling clinic. In addition to this, he has maintained his own private practice for more than 15 years. He received his Bachelor of Science from Wayne State University, and also received his Master of Science, Psychological Sciences degree, and PhD from the University of Detroit.

Dr. Gregg Quiggle will also move from the undergraduate school to primarily teach in the graduate school as the D.L. Moody Professor of Historical Theology. Dr. Quiggle has been serving as a professor in the Bible and Theology department at Moody since 1987. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Wheaton College and Graduate School, an additional Master of Arts from Marquette University, and his PhD from Open University.

In addition to these new position announcements and appointments at MTS, there are also new faculty coming for Moody Bible Institute’s undergraduate department this fall.

“It’s with great anticipation and pride that we welcome the new faculty members joining our undergraduate colleagues this fall at Moody,” said Dr. Bryan O’Neal, vice president and dean of Moody Bible Institute. “We hold our faculty and instructors to the highest standard of academic excellence and Christian character understanding how impactful their life’s work and training will be in the lives of our students. We are very proud of those coming onboard.”

MBI–Undergraduate New Faculty

Dr. John Mabus joins Moody this fall as associate professor of Applied Theology. For the past 14 years, Dr. Mabus has served as a Navy Chaplain, sharing the gospel and caring for people in the context of military life. Prior to that, he served as an associate pastor and church planter in Boston. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Moody Bible Institute, Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University, and his Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Dr. Megan Clunan teaches students out of her calling as a practitioner and professor. She will join Moody this fall as associate professor of Human services in the Education and Counseling department. Dr. Clunan is a licensed professional counselor and has worked in the counseling and human services field for more than 10 years—serving in private practice, inner-city schools, and community agencies. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University, Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling, and her PhD from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Mikel Del Rosario will join Moody this fall as associate professor of Bible and Theology. Prior to this he spent a decade teaching apologetics and world religions at William Jessup University in California. Dr. Del Rosario is passionate about helping Christians find clear answers to difficult questions about Christianity so they can better engage culture and explain their faith with courage and compassion. He received his Bachelor of Arts and his Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. He also received a Master of Theology, as well as and his PhD in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Dr. Sorin Sabou is joining Moody this fall as associate professor of Bible and Theology. A native of Romania, Dr. Sabou has 22 years of cross-cultural pastoral and executive leadership experience. He has a variety of published works, and his areas of expertise are Apostle Paul, Aristotle, and Alasdair MacIntyre. His current research focuses on the theological understanding of the good of man. Dr. Sabou received his Theological degree from Babes-Bolyai University, a Master of Arts in Philosophy from University of Illinois, a Master in Philosophy from University of Birmingham, a PhD in Theology from London School of Theology, and a PhD in Philosophy from University of Bucharest.

Dr. Yongmin Kim is also moving from special visiting professor to assistant professor of Music. Dr. Kim has served at Moody since 2019 and teaches in the Music and Media Arts department at Moody; he is also the director of the Moody Chorale. Dr. Kim is an experienced church musician, and previously served as the music director at Korean Presbyterian Church of Metro Detroit for 15 years. He is a distinguished musician who holds multiple degrees from Presbyterian College and Seminary (Seoul, South Korea), Eastman School of Music, and University of Michigan, where he earned both a Master of Music in Choral Conducting, and a doctorate in voice performance.
